Stuart McCall set to be named Rangers manager

Posted by maxgeorge0018 on September 5, 2016 at 11:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Stuart McCall has arrived at Rangers' training ground to begin work as the new Rangers manager.

McCall was photographed driving through the gates at Murray Park ahead of the anticipated announcement of his appointment.

The 50-year-old is expected to deliver his first media conference as Rangers boss later on Thursday.

The former Ibrox midfielder will be tasked with rejuvenating Rangers' promotion bid with the team currently sitting third in the Scottish Championship.

The Scotland assistant coach resigned as Motherwell manager in November after collecting just seven points from the first 12 games of the Scottish Premiership season and suffering cup defeats to Hamilton and Icelandic side Stjarnan.

But McCall previously led the Lanarkshire club to their best run of post-war league results, finishing third and second, twice, in his three full seasons in charge, having earlier led them to the Scottish Cup final in 2011.

The former Scotland midfielder won six league titles in seven seasons with Rangers after joining the club in 1991 in the early stages of their nine-in-a-row run, making a total of 264 appearances.

An appointment would relieve Kenny McDowall of his caretaker-manager duties following a poor run of results under the reluctant leader.

McDowall, who has openly admitted he would rather not be in charge, has only secured three wins in 10 games since taking over when Ally McCoist was put on garden leave in December.

McCoist and McDowall have both handed in their resignations and have been serving their 12-month notice periods.

The positivity surrounding the Dave King-led revolution in the boardroom, which was extremely popular with fans, has not been transmitted to the pitch with the club drawing with both Cowdenbeath and Queen of the South since the shareholder vote.

Despite being seven points ahead of fifth-placed Falkirk with a game in hand, McDowall warned after Tuesday's 1-1 home draw with Queens that Rangers were in danger of falling out of the Scottish Championship top four and missing out on a play-off place.

Levante chief critical of Fulham after Luiz loan deal blocked by FIFA

Posted by maxgeorge0018 on September 1, 2016 at 11:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Levante president Francisco Catalan says Fulham should have acted more professionally after FIFA blocked Bryan Ruiz's move.

Ruiz had agreed a loan move to the La Liga club until the end of the season but the paperwork was filed after the deadline closed in Spain and world football's governing body refused to sanction the deal.

Levante appealed against the decision but, after reviewing the situation, FIFA ruled the move could not go through.

That has angered the Spanish club and Catalan says he feels Fulham could have handled the situation a lot better.

Catalan, speaking in Spanish newspaper Marca, said: "The transfer was going ahead in the evening (of deadline day) when the player requested the move but the paperwork didn't arrive in a timely manner.

"Neither do I want nor can I think about (the idea that Fulham deliberately sabotaged the move). It wouldn't be fair to the player or Levante. I'd be doing a disservice to football. [Fulham] didn't manage their time well.

"Fulham didn't realise that the deadline was Friday because they thought it was Monday.

"We must abide by and respect the decision of FIFA, but I just don't understand it, although the rules are well established. I have little else to say.

"There's little or no argument from us. Basically we didn't adhere to the deadline and 00:01 [on January 31] was too late.

"It's nothing we didn't know already, but there's the feeling of powerlessness and misunderstanding, though we respect the logic [of the decision].

"Money wasn't a problem, I wish it was one. Fulham regarded Bryan as a key player. If there's a delay of one minute, it's because the documentation wasn't submitted in time. The player's conduct has been excellent, for him it was a dream to play in Spain."

Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla: Ronaldo brace secures UEFA Super Cup victory

Posted by maxgeorge0018 on August 14, 2016 at 4:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Real Madrid sent out a message to La Liga and the rest of the world as they comfortably brushed aside Sevilla 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup in the Cardiff City Stadium.

The world's most expensive player Gareth Bale made his return home, while World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez started in his competitive debut for Los Blancos, but both were overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese was at his mesmerising best as he grabbed an excellent brace to seal an easy victory.

Real Madrid, who could only finish third behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in La Liga last season, lay siege to Sevilla's goal throughout the opening minutes with both Bale and Ronaldo going close to opening the scoring.

As it was it happened to be the latter, with the ultimate galactico beautifully sliding in at the backpost to prod in the Welshman's brilliant cross from five yards on 30 minutes.

Fellow debutant Toni Kroos completed a star-studded Real side and the Champions League winners added their second shortly after the break, following brilliant interplay which involved the German World Cup winner and Karim Benzema.

The duo combined with Ronaldo before the Portuguese star hammered the ball past Sevilla goalkeeper, Beto, who it could easily be said should have done better with the shot.

The Europa League winners desperately rallied as they tried to find a way back but instead it was Rodriguez who could have marked his debut with a goal, as Beto atoned for his earlier errort with a brilliant save from the Colombian.

Instead the night belonged to the World Footballer of the Year, Ronaldo, as Real Madrid ran out easy winners to lift their first trophy of the season.

UEFA Champions League playoff round bound Borussia Mönchengladbach have unveiled their 2016/17 away and European (third) kits from Kappa Deutschland. Both are expected to be available at World Soccer Shop, Kitbag, UK Soccer Shop, Lovell Soccer and Subside Sports along with the new Die Fohlen (The Foals) home jersey.

See on the pitch in pre-season action, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 16/17 away kit is in the bright green that the five-time German Bundesliga champions have used on a number of occasions. It has a relatively high cut rounded neckline along with a series of horizontal bands with fade effects on its front. The back of the jersey is all green to allow for easy visibility of player names and numbers.

Set for a debut during Gladbach’s UCL playoff series with Switzerland’s BSC Young Boys, the club’s 2016/17 European / third kit uses the same Kappa design as the away shirt. It has a black base and accented in bright green at its collar and through a series of widened diamonds on its front.
